The “Gentleman”

The “Gentleman” who took tickets at the door was Mr. Jack Bitar who lived in South Norwood. Mr. Bitar was an iconic figure who stood with dignity and sincerity to greet the patrons of the theatre for many many years. You knew when you approached to give your ticket that “Jack” would greet you with a smile and perhaps a greeting such as “Mr. (so and so) how are you”. He was always “dressed up” and gave the impression that he could have come right out of one of the movies – a dapper character – but truth be told this is who he was 24/7 – truly a “Gentleman”!
